Work is performed in a facility, responsible for keeping the facility and vehicles clean. The Custodian is exposed to chemicals, and fumes and must adhere to safety protocols when dealing with both.

A Custodian needs to have the ability to stand and walk for long periods, ability to lift, knowledge of different cleaning products and tools, time management and multi-tasking skills, good verbal communication, and ability to work with minimal supervision.

Examples of Work (The following tasks are representative and not to be considered all inclusive):

Sweeps and mops floors using hand or power equipment; cleans and waxes furniture; empties trash containers; strips and refinishes floors; washes walls and mirrors; washes windows (inside and out- side); dusts; cleans chalk- boards, drinking fountains, counters and lights; cleans and sanitizes restrooms and replenishes supplies; delivers supplies; inspects areas for cleanliness; repairs and makes adjustments to toilets, urinals and drinking fountains by replacing flush valves, water flow regulators, seats, etc.; performs minor maintenance to custodial equipment.

Vacuums, spot cleans, shampoos and extracts carpets; glues down tiles and performs minor carpet repair.

Moves furniture; arranges desks, chairs and tables; takes down or sets up chairs and tables for events; picks up supplies.

Replaces light bulbs; locks; etc.

Washes and gases vehicles.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  2. Communication: All staff must have the ability to effectively use oral and written communication in performing duties and responsibilities.
